Weatherwax Post #75Grand Haven, Ottawa County, Michigan Organized September 13, 1882 This Post was probably named to honor Benjamin K. Weatherwax of Georgetown Township, Allegan County. Benjamin K. Weatherwax enlisted in Company C, 10th Michigan Cavalry at organization as Captain, age 35. He was commissioned on July 25, 1863. He was killed in action at Wautaga Bridge, Carter's Station, Tenn. on April 25, 1864. The Post was Mustered with 18 Charter Members. The first Post Commander was Samuel C. Glover who enlisted in Company G, 46th Michigan Infantry on August 20, 1862 and served until July 17, 1863. The Post met at the Armory on Washington Street and the Odd Fellows Hall, also on Washington Street. In 1896 they were back at the Armory on 2nd and Franklin. In 1897 they meet again at the Odd Fellows Hall on Washington Street. In 1899 they are meeting at the G.A.R. Hall on the corner of Washington and Second Street. In 1915 they are meeting at the Court House on Washington Street. The last Post Commander was Enno J. Pruin. His Membership was not reported by the customary rout and he does not appear on the roster. He enlisted in Company G, 21st Michigan Infantry on August 4, 1862 at age 19. He was discharged as Sergeant on June 8, 1865 in Washington, D. C. The final Report was filed December31 1926 with 10 Members. The Post was disbanded in 1927.
