Alvincent Calvin Post #59Gobleville, Van Buren County, Michigan Organized May 1882 The name requested on the Application for Post Charter was Garfield. The Post was named to honor Alvincent (Alvinsa) Coleman of Lafayette. He enlisted in Company D, 27th Michigan Infantry on January 2, 1863 age 19. He was discharged by writ of habeas corpus. A copy of the Report of the Mustering Officer is not in the file making it impossible to identify the Charter Members. The first Post Commander was G. B. Southworth who served in Company K, 1st Michigan Cavalry from November 30, 1863 to July 17, 1865. The Post met intermittently at the Clements Hall on State Street and K. of P Hall on Exchange Street. 18 1882 they met at Myers Hall. By 1897 the meeting place on State Street is identified as G. A. R. Hall. In 1908 they are at Huff Hall on Main Street. In 1913 the G. A. R. Hall is on Main Street. In 1925 they indicate meeting at one of the homes. The last Post Commander was Jacob Eastman who served in Company G, 9th Michigan Cavalry. He enlisted on February 1, 1864 and was discharged on October 1, 1865. The final Report was filed on December 31, 1933 with the note - " Our other soldier that was here has gone away - Truly Yours, Jacob Eastman." The Post was disbanded on May 12, 1934.
