Capt. Hiram Barrows Post #55Armada, Macomb County, Michigan Organized June 4, 1895 This Post was named to honor Hiram Barrows of Romeo. He entered service in Company A, 9th Michigan Infantry at organization as a 2nd Lieutenant on August 13, 1861, age 37. Commissioned 1st Lieutenant on December 10, 1861. He was wounded and taken prisoner at Murfreesboro, Tenn. July 13, 1862. He was exchanged August 12, 1862. He was commissioned Captain October 13, 1862. He was discharged on expiration of his term of service on Nov. November 23, 1864. He died in Armada Michigan. The Post was Mustered with 16, Charter Members. The first Post Commander was P. B. Cade who enlisted in Company H, 4th Michigan Infantry September 13, 1864 and was discharged May 5, 1865. The Post met at Macabee Hall on Main Street in 1896 and the meeting place is noted as the Commander's House in December 1919. The last Post Commander was Frederick Kipp who served as Bugler in Company H, 10th Michigan Infantry from October 8, 1861 to July 18, 1865. The last Report was filed on December 31, 1926 showing five Members. The Post was disbanded in 1927.
