John F. Reynolds Post #52Pentwater, Oceana County, Michigan Organized April 4, 1882 The name requested on the Application for Charter was John A. Dix who enlisted as a Private in Company G, 95th Ohio Infantry on August 2, 1862 at age 19. He was promoted to Sergeant on December 8, 1862. He was a POW held at Brice's Cross Roads (Andersonville) and was mustered out on June 9, 1865 in Camp Chase. The Post was named to honor John Fulton Reynolds. After service in Florida, the Mexican War and fighting Indians in the West, he served as Commandant of Cadets at West Point. At the start of the war he was named Lt. Colonel of the 14th US Infantry. Major General Reynolds was involved in many actions until he was killed by a sharpshooter at Gettysburg. The Post was organized with 14 Charter Members. The first Post Commander was J. E. White who enlisted as a Private in Company G, 13th Michigan Infantry. He was discharged as Captain of Company G, for disability, on September 3, 1863. The Post was disbanded in 1883.
