Josiah Andrews Post #51Alanson, Emmet County, Michigan Organized October 24, 1889 This Post was named to honor Josiah Andrews of Paw Paw. He entered service as Surgeon in the 3rd Michigan Cavalry on September 5, 1861 at age 50. He was discharged at the expiration of his service at Brownsville, Arkansas on October 24, 1864, He died August 26, 1886 and is buried at Paw Paw. The Post was Mustered with 13 Charter Members. The first Post Commander was Joseph W. Luce who served in Company C, 3rd Michigan Cavalry. He enlisted on September 1, 1861 and received a discharge for disability on October 1, 1862. The Post met at Bonz Hall, White's Hall, Mitchell Hall, all in Alanson. The last Post Commander was M. M. Sanford. His membership was not reported in the customary fashion. His service was with Company K, Erie Regiment of Infantry, Pennsylvania. The last Report was filed June 30, 1898 and the Post surrendered its Chart with 20 members remaining. The Post was disbanded in 1898.
