Wolverton Post #51Berlin, Ottawa County, Michigan Organized March 24, 1882 This Post was probably named to honor George Wolverton of Berlin. He enlisted in Company G, 21st Michigan Infantry on August 12, 1862, age 18. He died of disease on January 19, 1864 in Chattanooga, Tenn. The Post was Mustered with 17 Charter Members. The First and also last Post Commander was Benjamin F. Norton. He enlisted I, as Corporal, in Company F, 2nd Michigan Cavalry on September 9, 1861, age 23. He was missing on December 15, 1862 at Carter's Station, Tenn., returning on June 15, 1863 at Triune, Tenn. He was promoted to Full Sergeant on April 1, 1864. He was discharged on October 22, 1864 in Nashville, Tenn. The Post met at Huntley Hall, Armory Hall in 1883 and Berlin Hall in 1884, all on Water Street. The last Report was filed December 31, 1884 showing 28 Members. The Post was disbanded January 1885.
