H. N. Ferry Post #3Montague, Muskegon County, Michigan Organized May 22, 1877 This Post was named to honor Major Noah H. Ferry. He entered service as Captain of Company F, 5th Michigan Cavalry at organization, August 11, 1862. He was 31 years of age and lived at White River. He was commissioned Major December 1, 1862. He was killed in action at Gettysburg, Pa., July 3, 1863. The Post was originally designated as Post 4. By the time of the Department reorganization in 1879, the Clark Post 3 of Union City was dropped and in the re-alignment this Post was moved to number 3 with that change noted on the Report filed for the first quarter of 1879. Over the years the mailing address moved back and forth between Montague and Whitehall. Dallas Johnson was the first Post Commander. He served as a Private in Company M of the 1st New York Light Artillery. The last commander listed was Francis C. Hiscott. He was a Sergeant in Company A of the 105th New York Infantry. The Post was disbanded in 1926.
