Garfield Post #30Coloma, Berrien County, Michigan Organized October 10, 1881 The Post was Mustered with 18 Charter Members. The first Post Commander was William A. Baker who enlisted in Company K, 178th Ohio Infantry on August 26, 1864. He was discharged as Corporal on June 29, 1865 at Charlotte, NC. The Post initially met at Howe's Hall. By 1882 they met at the "G.A.R. Hall" on Public Square. By 1886 this location was noted as Washington Street. In 1897 they met at Baker's Hall on Main Street, the Town Hall and Odd Fellows Hall on Main Street. In 1917 the meeting location is again noted as G.A.R. Hall, but no street is named.
The last Post Commander was Albert Newton who enlisted in Company C of the 19th Michigan Infantry on January 4, 1864 at age 18. He was reported sick on May 15, 1864 an no further information is provided. The final Report was filed by this Post on December 31, 1919 with nine Members remaining. The Post was disbanded on December 10, 1919.
