French Post #28Big Rapids, Mecosta County, Michigan Organized September 5, 1881 This Post was named to honor Alexander French of Mecosta County. He enlisted as a Private in Company K, 3rd Michigan Infantry on May 13, 1861 at age 18. He was promoted to Corporal on June 10, 1861. Wounded on November 27, 1863 at Mine Run, VA, he died of his wounds on December 6, 1863 at Alexandria, Virginia. No records have survived for this Post except for the Post Charter. There are 19 Charter Members listed. There is no indication who the officers were or where the Post met. The Post was disbanded June 26, 1894.
