Ryder Post #12
Deerfield, Lenawee County, Michigan

Organized April 9, 1880

There is no indication which of the eleven men by the name of Ryder, from Michigan that this Post was named to honor.

The Post was mustered with 14 Charter Members.

The first Post Commander was Joseph Keegan who served as a Private in Company K, 1st Michigan Infantry for three months in 1861.

The Post met in Deerfield at a building on Carey Street that was noted by a variety of names over the years. The names ranged from Odd Fellows Hall to names that may be associated with changes in ownership. At various times the Hall was designated as G.A.R. Hall or W.R.C. Hall, and in a few instances was said to be located on Main Street.

The last Post Commander was E. E. Burnham who served in Company C, 11th Michigan Infantry from February to September in 1865.

The Post was disbanded in December 1925.
